A tradesperson who knows his stuff
The story behind First Rate Handyman Services, and why Jim started it.
"No guesswork, no shortcuts — just the job done right."
Hands-on, not hands-off
Jim's experience comes from real job sites, not just his own to-do list. He spent a year and a half at Fieldgate Homes, a Greater Toronto Area residential home builder, working as a rough handyman — everything from framing and site prep to drywall, trim and baseboard, painting, and finish carpentry — followed by six months on an Ontario Housing repair contract, handling fast-turnaround repairs and unit turnovers on social housing stock. On top of that formal experience, he's spent years doing hands-on repair and renovation work on his own home, and for friends and family. From drywall and painting to decks, siding, and everything in between, he brings real, tested experience to every job, no matter the size.
He started First Rate Handyman Services to give Oshawa, Whitby and Courtice homeowners something the market's been missing: a straight-talking crew they don't have to second-guess, at a price that's published, not negotiated. Jim leads every job himself, bringing in trusted help for the bigger ones.
We're not a general contracting outfit and won't pretend to be — but for the repairs, maintenance and small-to-mid-size projects most homeowners actually need, we've done it before, more than once, and we'll tell you plainly if a job is bigger than what we handle.
